SUPERB CAPTAINS LEADING EXCEPTIONAL CREWS

Jan de Bruijn (pictured on the front cover) has been Captain for 37 years. Born in the small Dutch town of Streefkerk, he followed in the footsteps of his two uncles who were both skippers on ocean-going vessels. At the very young age of 23 he received his Captain credentials and started his career navigating tug boats as well as luxury yachts and tankers before finally achieving his ultimate goal - being Captain of a passenger vessel. For more than ten years, Jan de Bruijn has been commanding passenger ships and for the past five years he has enjoyed his role as Chief Captain of the AmaWaterways fleet.

GOLD-MEDAL CUISINE

Each aspect of our river cruises is overseen by experts with a passion for conveying the best of Europe, Russia and the Mekong. It’s part of the commitment to excellence that has made AmaWaterways the undisputed river cruise leader. We’re especially proud when that excellence is recognized by others. One example is Executive Chef Primus Perchtold, honored recently with three gold medals at the European Championship of Culinary Art. Members of the prestigious Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Chef Perchtold and his team oversee the distinctive cuisine and wine selections on every AmaWaterways cruise in Europe. Each evening, guests will find one of Chef Perchtold’s signature dishes printed on souvenir recipe cards on their pillow. And the tasty traditions continue off the ship as well. Our new “Culinary Delights” shore excursion program gives guests a sampling of Europe’s local flavors as they savor gastronomic delicacies in towns large and small.

"IN CELEBRATION OF WINE" CRUISES

Our innovative itineraries and distinctive theme cruises showcase Europe as few others know it. This fall, our “In Celebration of Wine” cruises bring the wine culture along the Danube, Rhine and Mosel to life. Guests cruising on these special October and November departures will “swirl, sip and savor” the vintages of Europe, accompanied by hosts from renowned wineries. The Wine Cruises include complimentary onboard lectures, wine tastings and excursions to historic vineyards and cellars. Guests will also enjoy special wine-themed excursions, such as a Medieval Wine Fest in the Mosel town of Zell; a traditional “Heuriger” tasting outside Vienna and an introduction to Alsatian wines along the Alsatian Wine Route.

ENRICHING SPECIALTY CRUISES

Our Jewish Heritage Cruises take place on select Romantic Danube and Blue Danube Discovery itineraries in June, August and October. These cruises, which are open to all passengers, highlight the rich Jewish traditions, culture and history in key destinations along the Danube. Experts will lead illuminating visits to synagogues, museums and other landmarks, with highlights that include the Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest, the Jewish Museum in Vienna and the Oscar Schindler House in Regensburg.

During the holidays, AmaWaterways envelops guests in the spirit of the season with spectacular Christmas Cruises on the Danube and the Rhine. Guests visit magical Christmas markets, trim an onboard tree, feast on seasonal cuisine and enjoy a visit by Santa himself.
